This is going to upset a lot of Chevy fans.

We've seen plenty of Chevrolet Camaro restomods over the years, from wild track monsters to fully electric conversions. This latest Camaro restomod is arguably one of the most controversial, however. For the last two years, Gavin Trace Simon has been building a custom 1967 Chevrolet Camaro with a Ford Coyote V8 engine swap sourced from the Camaro's arch-rival, the Ford Mustang.

The Camaro originally belonged to the owner's father and is said to be "the most meaningful car" in his life. It hasn't been driven since 2005 when his father drove it to escape from Hurricane Katrina and overheated it.

After buying it from his father, Simon set to work restoring the Camaro to its former glory. Unfortunately, the original engine had a cracked block. But instead of replacing it with an off-the-shelf 350 crate engine, the owner wanted to create a unique build that is more sentimental so he fitted a Coyote V8 from his Ford Mustang drag car.

Simon admits that transplanting a Ford Mustang Coyote V8 into an old-school Camaro is probably going to be sacrilegious for Chevrolet fans, and while the end result is impressive, the owner encountered a few issues. After filling it up with gas, the owner fitted the air-intake tube to the engine and mounted the battery.

The first attempt to hotwire the car and bring it to life doesn't go well as it fails to start and smoke can be seen billowing from the engine bay. It was then discovered that a ground issue was preventing the car from starting. There was no smoke on the second attempt to start it, but the Coyote-powered Camaro leaked oil and the oil pressure was too low.

After fixing these issues, the Coyote-powered Camaro finally roared into life, and it sounds epic. Not only is it more powerful than the original Camaro, but the custom build is also significantly lighter, tipping the scales at 2,760 pounds. We can't wait to see the finished Mustang-powered Camaro tear up the track.
